About OCC

The Oromo Cultural Center (OCC), also known as Masjid Al-Rahman, serves as a vital Islam faith-based community hub aimed at uniting the indigenous people and refugees, particularly the Oromo from East Africa. As the largest ethnic group in East Africa, with over 60 million members, the Oromo have faced significant challenges due to brutal regimes in Ethiopia that forced many to flee their homeland in search of refuge and safety. Those who have made it to the Washington sate have come together to create a support system where they can connect, share their experiences, and preserve their rich cultural heritage while fostering understanding with their new neighbors. As a result OCC was born in 2001 and now stands as a testament to resilience and hope, promoting healing and community solidarity of all diversity.
